Tuesday, September 24, 2013 – Kuala Lumpur: Elegance and sophistication were taken to new heights today at the unveiling of Miss Universe Malaysia’s Rafflesia Pearl Evening Gown. Featuring an ensemble that also includes a bejeweled tiara; the complete outfit is estimated to be worth in the region of RM1.1M. The evening gown in itself was a collaborative effort between designer extraordinaire, Alia Bastamam; and complemented with the dexterous sophistication of Rafflesia Pearl.
Lending more significance to the entire affair was Russian Ambassador, Lyudmila G. Vorobyeva, who graced the event in support of Malaysia’s participation on an international platform.
According to Miss Universe Malaysia Organization (MUMO) officials, the said gown is to be worn by reigning Miss Universe Malaysia 2013, Carey Ng, to contend at the 62nd Miss Universe pageant at the Crocus City Hall, Moscow during the month of November 2013.
“We wish to showcase what we have, and what we can do to the world. Blending sophistication and style is a careful balance and we believe we have pulled no stops in bringing out the best in us,” said Winnie Sin, Director of Rafflesia The Pearl Centre.
Needless to say, the gown looked magnificent on Carey.
“We’ve had to work on a look that highlights Carey’s attributes. We’ve even had her hair set by Hairkunst Salon so we bring out the look we want from her. Every detail plays a part; if not our efforts are in vain,” said Alia Bastamam.
It appears the parameters are already being set for a show not to be missed at the 62th Miss Universe Pageant, and MUMO is showing determination of being on par with what is to be expected. Carey is scheduled to depart for Moscow sometime next month.
