FINALISTS OF THE NEXT MISS UNIVERSE MALAYSIA 2016 REVEALED
Kuala Lumpur, 7 October 2015 – The Miss Universe Malaysia Organization (MUMO) announced the Top 14 finalists of the Next Miss Universe Malaysia 2016 at the Palace of the Golden Horses today following a search over the span of six months.
The Top 14 finalists to vie for the crown of Miss Universe Malaysia 2016 are (in alphabetical order): Alicia Tan, Ariessa Lam, Cindy Ng, Dhivya Dhyana, Hazelin Ng, Jennifer Ling, Kiran Jassal, Lina Soong, Loveena Ruben, Nisha Sema, Rema Rao, Chow Shiat Teen, Swarna Naidu and Yeoh Yen Nee.
During beauty camp, the girls will undergo a series of activities where they will be groomed and tested in various areas including catwalk, styling, public speaking, acting, fitness and photo shoots. For 2016, the format has been updated to reach to a greater online audience where the entire process will be captured and broadcasted on YouTube in a series of 31 webisodes.
Fans can once again vote for their favourites for 2016 using the The Next Miss Universe Malaysia (TNMUM) mobile application available for free from the iTunes App Store and Google PlayStore.
This year, MUMO will be supporting the Malaysia AIDS Foundation (MAF). Through the partnership, MUMO aims to raise funds and more significantly, create awareness on the prevention of HIV/AIDS prevention amongst young women. A portion of the proceeds raised from the Miss Universe Malaysia events will be channelled to MAF’s Treatment, Care and Support Programme which seeks to improve access to HIV healthcare, support and welfare services for Malaysia’s underserved communities who are affected by HIV and AIDS, particularly women and children.
The National Director of MUMO, Ms Carey Ng said, “Every batch of girls brings a fresh take on beauty and this year I’m very happy to have found 14 beautiful girls that will be vying for the crown. The Miss Universe Malaysia Organization is excited to embark on this very special journey with them in the hopes of uncovering a worthy winner and competitor onto the international stage.”
“The finalists should strive to be the epitome of beauty and continue to redefine what beauty is. They will be equipped with tools from our supportive panel of experts, beauty, fashion and many more to help them take on the challenges set before them,” she elaborated.
The crowning of Miss Universe Malaysia 2016 will take place at the Palace of the Golden Horses Hotel at the end of January 2016. The crowned winner will have an opportunity of a lifetime to travel abroad representing Malaysia at the Miss Universe pageant to be held in the later part of 2016. Additionally, she will also receive a cash prize of RM50,000 and sponsored prizes worth over RM200,000.
This annual pageant is presented by Fashion Valet and MyMotor, in support of the Malaysian AIDS Foundation (MAF) with official partner Ceres Jewelry, and jointly sponsored by Naza Italia Maserati, Frederique Constant, Superdry, Ko Skin Specialist, Palace of the Golden Horses, Shawn Cutler, L’Oreal Professional, Acer, Bodytone Studio, La Juiceria, Mermaid Dreams, Sense&Style, Apat Port /Ford Studio KL, Citadels Horizon Productions, Angelic Touch and Flame.
The finalists will be assisted by a panel of catwalk, beauty and styling experts such as Dato’ Yasmin Yusuf, Aishah Sinclair, Amber Chia, Jason Leong, Lexie Rodriguez, Shawn Loong, famous YouTubers and a team of experts from respective sponsors in hair, makeup, etiquette, modelling, fashion editors and ex-beauty queens. The Next Miss Universe Malaysia 2016 is supported by official media partners The Star, FHM and Style magazine, and 8TV.
