SHWETA SEKHON IS MISS UNIVERSE MALAYSIA 2019

Kuala Lumpur, Thursday, 7 March 2019 – Shwetajeet Kaur or better known as Shweta Sekhon, 22 from Kuala Lumpur was crowned Miss Universe Malaysia 2019 after beating 17 other contestants at a glitzy Gala Night dinner event held at The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur..

Shweta also brought home the subsidiary title of Miss Glojas Beatiful. Meanwhile, Frost Yaw Hui Jing 姚慧晶, 25 from Johor is first runner-up, while the second and third runner-up are Tessminderjeet Kaur, 23 from Selangor and Lee Su Hsien @ Su Lee 李素贤, 25 from Kuala Lumpur.

Standing at 172cm, Shweta is a freelance fashion model who enjoys listening to music, reading, hiking and travelling. One of her dreams is to stand in front of the world as a role model, and inspire others with positivity and persistence to never give up in order to be successful.

As Miss Universe Malaysia 2019, Shweta received a Habib Jewels crown valued at RM2.38 million, cash and sponsored prizes with a combined value of RM180,000, and a full education scholarship from HELP University. She will represent Malaysia on the international stage at the Miss Universe competition later in the year at a yet-to-be-revealed location.

Inspired by this year’s theme ‘Beauty Beyond You, the Habib Jewels crown, ‘Reflection’ features a 10-carat diamond set in white gold and was conceptualised to represent strength, power, courage, creativity, self-respect and love. The crown was named such as it resonates with the values and beauty reflected in each finalist.

The additional subsidiary title winners are:

Earlier in the week at the Preliminaries round held at Zouk Kuala Lumpur on 4 March 2019, the following subsidiary titles were awarded:

  • Miss Babel Body Beautiful: Jean Kueh 郭咏君, 26
  • Miss Duchess & Co. Online Personality: Nikita Menon, 23
  • Miss Miko Galere Exceptional Coiffure: Rebecca Chan 曾慧婷, 25

The Gala Night panel of judges consisted of eight personalities and industry players. They were Alia Bastamam, Creative Director of Alia Bastamam, Dato’ Dr JasG, CEO & Founder of Glojas Smart International Aesthetic, Kiran Jassal, Miss Universe Malaysia 2016, Lynn Lim, Actress, Miko

Au, Celebrity Hairstylist of Miko Galere, Dr Nicholas Lim, Medical Director of La Jung Clinic, Lau Yin May, Head, Customer Experience for Malaysia Airlines Berhad and Whulandary Herman, Miss Universe Indonesia 2013.

The 18 finalists kicked off the evening with the Introduction round wearing stunning cocktail dresses by MOEP aka Maze of Event Planner, and once again during the final round where they wore an impressive collection of evening gowns by the same label.

Out of the Top 18, the girls who made the cut into the Top 10 were: Chai Xin Tze (Christine) 蔡心慈 ,19, Lee Su Hsien (Su Lee) 李素贤, 25, Nikita Menon, 23, Rishon Shun, 25, Shwetajeet Kaur (Shweta Sekhon), 22, Tan Yee Ying (Rabecca) 陈怡萦, 26, Tanushia Devi Paransothy, 24, Tessminderjit Kaur (Tess), 23, Thunisah Devi (Nisha), 24 and Yaw Hui Jing (Frost) 姚慧晶, 25.

Emcees for the Gala Night were Andrea Fonseka and Hansen Lee, while over 800 guests consisting of the who’s who in the local business, media, fashion and entertainment industry attended the event including YB Hannah Yeoh, Dato’ Yasmin Yusuff, Dato’ Hans Isaac, Miss Universe Malaysia 2011 Deborah Henry, Miss Universe Malaysia 2015 Vanessa Tevi Kumares, Kavita Sidhu and more, while Miss Universe Malaysia 2018 Jane Teoh was present to crown her successor.

This year, the Gala Night featured an exciting variety of performances including an opening act by hurr.tv talents Yazmin Aziz and Aqeesh, Hong Kong singer Rainky Wai, songstress Dato’ Sheila Majid, Kpop dance group ISE and comedian Jason Leong.

Datin Elaine Daly, National Director of the Miss Universe Malaysia Organization (MUMO) said, “The Miss Universe Malaysia Organization has always been about inspiring, transforming and empowering young women out there to be confidently beautiful so that they can stand proud on a global platform with a sense of purpose, carry the Malaysia flag with pride and be able to make a difference.”
